rhythm of lines

So this is the latest Audi A5 car ad from BBH. This is a really nice idea but sadly the execution is a little lacking I feel. What I like about this ad is the movement of the lines to the music. It feels like ribbon floating through space. The lines that make up various sides of the car form freely, if a little obviously, to the flow of the music. I am not sure of the use of colours here though. A rough, early cut I saw of this ad had the ribbons purely in red, a deep red, which seemed to work a bit better. Also the end resolve of the ribbons into text just doesn't work for me. It looks lazy and childlike. And if you see the full version of the ad (at least the full UK version) over at the Audi site you will see that the ad ends on the car. Yes an actual photograph of the car, thus nullifying all the previous work of the ad. A car company like Audi should be confident enough in their brand by now that they need not show the car at all (see BMW) in their ads. The decision to have the car at the end is poor in my mind. This ad should serve to generate curiosity and interest in their product.

Watch this space for the imminent release of the gt microsite for the A5. From what I have seen and heard it is going to be awesome.

christian aid week

So it's Christian Aid Week this week and as they are one of our clients at GT we have produced a really nice microsite for them. A really cool idea taking the metaphor of the envelope and showing exactly what your small donation can mean. Visually realized with a cool 3D model and some nice animation all lead to a very effective little campaign. Nice work guys! Oh and please give generously if you can. It's a GREAT cause ;) Check out the microsite

dare tagged

In the best nature of GT and all who worked there we decided to send off our old building in a small way. Dave who has been there the longest ceremoniously ripped our old GT sign off the wall of the fourth floor to the cheers of all who were toasting our last day at the old building. Our rival company Dare who moved in next door to us at Great Titchfield St. to swanky offices, much to our chagrin at the time, got a friendly tag by one unnamed employee as the sign got taped to their office railings. He he. Much to our amusement whilst down the pub that afternoon the Dare people started blogging about it. Here is the link with all the comments. Thankfully it was taken in the spirit it was meant as we are now moving to even swankier offices in the city. Farewell Dare and farewell Great Titchfield St.

What is really odd is that someone else has set up a website called weweregoodtechnology with all the people's names who have left or are leaving..... not quite sure what is meant by that????

More to come on this and pictures too I hope....

gt work

I thought you'd like to see some of the brilliant work that is coming out of the digital agency where I'm working right now. Ok so I haven't actually worked on either of these projects but that's no reason not to blog about them. To be honest it is inspiring for me to see work of this quality being produced and the hope of doing a microsite soon is really cool (life beyond banners yay). So here is the work that has been done for Adobe..... be sure to follow the link at the end of this video for a TREAT!!!!!!

...and this is the work just out for Christian Aid.... a nice little twist on an idea and definitely makes you think

gt

Our agency has gone through some significant changes of late as it expands and wins new clients. To reflect this our website has been updated to include examples of the new work. I have had a heavy hand in creating lots of flash elements for these pages. As I take you through the pages I have worked on you need to look out for anything that moves and usually in the top right corner of the page. Have a read of the whole site as well if interested. Some of it makes great reading.

The Audi Q7 makes use of a 3D render of the car itself. I took the assets and animated them into this 360 spin of the car to reflect the content on the CD mailer that GT produced.

The Audi facelift and ba.com make use of a flash technique that I have been experimenting with whereby a bitmap image is distorted to create a 3D look. Originally the screenshots slid in on a plane but the new look with a flip slide works just as well I think.

The Canon dot campaign as it is lovingly called was something that had happened before I started at gt. I took the basics of the ad campaign which was the drip/dot and the ink jets (at the bottom of the page) and generated my own spin on things.

The Canon EOS 400D was my first full on campaign at the start of my time at the agency. You need to scroll to the second ad to see my work. It was a tough campaign to work on as we only had 30k to play with. I learned a lot about what you can squeeze out o flash on this one.

Microsoft is a huge client for us and another ad campaign I worked on was the Windows Mobile Devices campaign. There were several iterations of the ads. This one was a nice version that shows how you can use your Windows Mobile Device to open Word and Excel documents on the move.

Using Ben's awesome animations here I muddled them into this page for the Poetry Archive. Lots of fun stuff here (check out the animations at the bottom of the page).

outstanding

Who's a clever monkey then. It seems the powers that be have deemed me to be the Sessions' choice for DETC Outstanding Graduate of 2006. Check me out at the bottom of their homepage here and the full article here.
